BGG Announces Completion of the Second Doubling of its Astaxanthin Farm's Capacity in the Last Two Years
Irvine, California, May 5, 2023 – BGG World (BGG) and its subsidiary Algae Health Sciences (AHS) announce the completion of the second major expansion of their state-of-the-art, 100% glass tube photobioreactor microalgae farm in the last two years. This expansion doubled the current capacity of BGG’s flagship AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin line. The groundbreaking took place in May 2022 and was fully completed within BGG’s one-year projection. The expansion is located in the same pristine region as the existing farm, approximately one kilometer from the current facility.

BGG World Announces AstaZine® Astaxanthin Improves Visual Function in Peer-Reviewed Human Clinical Trial
Irvine, California, November 16, 2022 – BGG World (BGG) announced today the publication of a peer-reviewed human clinical trial demonstrating AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin’s ability to improve visual function in healthy adults.1 The study enrolled 60 subjects working on visual display terminals (VDT) and ingesting 9mg per day of AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin or placebo over six weeks. In subjects over 40 years of age, visual acuity of the dominant eye after VDT work demonstrated a stronger protective effect in the Astaxanthin group versus the placebo group, suggesting that Astaxanthin reduces oxidative stress caused by visual display terminal work.

BGG World Announces Appointment of Shaheen Majeed to CEO Position of BGG Americas & Subsidiaries

BGG Announces US Patent on AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin in the areas of Cardiovascular Health and Athletic Support
Irvine, California, January 13, 2021 – BGG World (BGG) announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued a patent to BGG for the use of Astaxanthin to support heart function during exercise (US Patent #10,827,775). This patent with far-ranging potential for both cardiovascular health as well as for athletes and active people is based on an innovative clinical trial* sponsored by BGG in amateur athletes preparing for a half marathon. Results found that subjects in the treatment group taking BGG’s AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin experienced heart rates on average 10% lower during endurance training than the placebo group. Shawn Talbott, lead researcher in this groundbreaking study, noted, “the subjects in this study were able to perform the same amount of ‘work’—but at lower cardiovascular ‘strain’ after supplementing with Astaxanthin.” Dr. Talbott pointed out the far-ranging potential applications for AstaZine® based on this study, and encouraged further similar research in diverse populations such as those suffering from cardiovascular disease and the elderly.

BGG Announces Results of a Human Clinical Study on a Synergistic Formula for Cognitive Health Containing TheraPrimE® Tocotrienols and AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin
IRVINE, CA, USA, September 15, 2020 –Irvine, California, September 15, 2020 – BGG World (BGG) announces that a new clinical trial1 was successfully completed and published on a synergistic combination of TheraPrimE® Palm Tocotrienols and AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin showing cognitive improvements in subjects with age-related memory decline. The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was done on 44 subjects over 12 weeks using a combination of 50mg of TheraPrimE® Palm Tocotrienols and 9mg of AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin. Statistically significant results versus placebo were found using the Cognitrax cognitive test to measure composite memory domain as well as by subjective user evaluation.
Lead author Takahiro Sekikawa, PhD, commented, “We previously demonstrated that AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin alone was able to markedly ameliorate how well subjects can recognize, remember, and retrieve words and geometric figures.2 In this study we decided to add 50mg of tocotrienols to the same dosage of Astaxanthin previously tested and we were able to show a statistically significant amelioration versus the placebo group on Cognitrax in addition to improvement in all subjective symptoms measured. Previous research has established synergistic antioxidant performance of a Tocotrienol + Astaxanthin blend, and it would be of great interest to investigate in future studies if this outcome is due to an ameliorated absorption of Astaxanthin or perhaps to increased antioxidant activity due to the addition of tocotrienols.”

(AHS) announce two major expansions of their state-of-the-art, 100% glass tube photobioreactor microalgae farm to support their growing business. “We’ve seen outstanding increases in our Astaxanthin business in recent years as brand owners around the world have come to understand BGG’s value proposition and our unsurpassed quality Astaxanthin,” said Chunhua Li, Chairman & Founder of BGG World. “And discerning brands really appreciate that we back up our product quality with human clinical research. In fact, we published three peer-reviewed clinical trials on our AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin last year alone to support our customers’ marketing and to further the science and public awareness of the health benefits of this wonderful, health-giving molecule.”
The first stage of this expansion is already underway, and includes maximization of the farm’s current footprint with additional glass tubing. Astaxanthin from Algae is Superior to Synthetic Astaxanthin and Astaxanthin from Phaffia Yeast as Evidenced in Eight Published Studies
IRVINE, CA, USA, January 29, 2020 – Algae Health Sciences, a division of BGG, announced the peer-reviewed publication of a review paper which evaluates head-to-head studies comparing Astaxanthin from three different sources in animals and in-vitro. In each case, Astaxanthin from the algal species Haematococcus pluvialis proved significantly more efficacious and biologically active than either Synthetic Astaxanthin or Astaxanthin from the genetically-mutated yeast called Phaffia. Six animal studies tested the different forms for a variety of health benefits and found the algal-based form performed significantly better for a variety of health benefits such as increasing lifespan; treating skin cancer; preventing the formation of gastric ulcers; improving resistance to stress; improving exercise endurance; decreasing reactive oxygen species (ROS); and augmenting enzyme levels. Furthermore, two antioxidant studies found that Algal Astaxanthin has 14X to 90X greater antioxidant activity than Synthetic Astaxanthin (Capelli, Talbott, Ding, 2019).
“In addition to these eight studies demonstrating superior efficacy and activity for Algal Astaxanthin, it’s important to understand that there are absolutely no human clinical trials we found demonstrating any health benefit or even safety for the alternative Astaxanthin forms,” said Shawn Talbott, PhD, President of EQQIL (a clinical research organization) who was an author of the review paper. “Until clinical trials are published on Synthetic Astaxanthin and Astaxanthin from Phaffia yeast showing efficacy and long-term human safety studies are conducted, our conclusion is that consumers should ensure that they’re supplementing with algal-based Astaxanthin. Algal Astaxanthin has over 100 clinical trials showing efficacy, numerous human safety studies, and twenty years of consumer use in the market.”

Two Recent Human Clinical Trials Establish Algae Health Science’s AstaZine® as the Astaxanthin Category Leader for Brain Health
IRVINE, CA, USA, November 14, 2019 – Algae Health Sciences, a division of BGG, announced the peer-reviewed publication of two double-blind, placebo-controlled human clinical trials using AstaZine® on brain health.
In the first study (done in USA), significant improvements in three critical markers including feelings of depression, mental fatigue and overall mood state [psychological well-being] were found after 8 weeks in healthy subjects aged 26 to 63 years (median age = 42) taking AstaZine® (Talbott, 2019). In addition, trends toward improvement in other important mental health parameters such as tension, anger and mental confusion were found through AstaZine® supplementation.
The second study (done in Japan) looked at very different yet crucial aspects of brain health. The subjects in this study were healthy adults who were experiencing mild forgetfulness. After twelve weeks taking AstaZine®, the treatment group showed a statistically significant improvement versus placebo on two tests for cognitive function and memory. Both verbal and composite memory significantly improved as tested by Cognitrax (a computerized testing system used to monitor and measure brain performance). In addition, subjective assessment of symptoms such as remembering people’s names and the names of things were judged by the AstaZine® group as having significantly improved (Sekikawa, 2019).
These two studies are particularly significant because they establish AstaZine® as the leading Astaxanthin product for brain health, a quickly growing category in the supplement industry.

Irvine, California, April 5, 2018 — Algae Health Sciences, Inc. (AlgaeHealth), a subsidiary of BGG, announced today that its flagship product AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin tested 100% Glyphosate-Free to a level of detection ranging from less than 26 to 50 parts per trillion in independent laboratory testing. Glyphosate is an herbicide trademarked as RoundUp® which is commonly used in conventional agriculture. The test was conducted through the Organic & Natural Health Association (O&N) at HRI Labs with equipment specially designed to test to infinitesimal levels of detection. O&N chose HRI Labs because other labs generally can only test to 20 parts per billion. “We’re very happy to have tested non-detected to this extreme level of detection,” said Lixin Ding, PhD, Chief Operating Officer for AlgaeHealth. “And we’re proud to be part of O&N, an organization that is championing the fight for a pure supply chain for the supplement industry.”
Glyphosate is becoming ubiquitous in many countries as farmers increasingly choose to grow genetically modified crops which are designed to be used in conjunction with this herbicide. Even some organically-grown crops test positive due to drifting of pesticides, use of manures from contaminated cattle, and organic farming in soil that was treated with RoundUp in the past. Unfortunately, levels in the low parts per trillion have shown potential health effects in rodents. “A study in rats showed that Glyphosate levels as low as 50 parts per trillion resulted in liver and kidney damage and indications of fatty liver disease” (Mesnage et al., 2015) said John Fagan, PhD, Co-Founder and CEO of HRI Labs. “I am concerned that the rapidly increasing incidence of fatty liver disease in Americans may be due to the widespread use of Glyphosate. In addition, levels of Glyphosate may be an indicator for risk of other contaminants. We encourage all food and supplement manufacturers to have their products tested to the parts per trillion level to ensure that their supply chain is clean and to avoid potential consumer health issues.”

(AlgaeHealth), a subsidiary of BGG, announced today a positive clinical trial publication at the American College of Sports Nutrition for AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin. Results showed a reduction in heart rate by 10% during long distance running (Talbott, et al, 2017*). “We found a very novel effect of natural astaxanthin to improve overall cardiovascular function,” said Shawn Talbott, PhD, the lead researcher. “The subjects in this study were able to perform the same amount of ‘work’—but at lower cardiovascular ‘strain’ after supplementing with astaxanthin.” BGG’s CEO, Yanmei Li, PhD added, “The implications of this study for athletes as well as potential benefits for anyone concerned with cardiovascular health are immense. AlgaeHealth Announces Industry’s First NDI for Astaxanthin Greater than 12mg per Day Dosage
Irvine, California, November 16, 2016 – Algae Health Sciences, Inc., (AlgaeHealth) a subsidiary of BGG, announced today that it has submitted a new NDI to the US FDA for its flagship product AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin. This new NDI builds on a previous NDI in late 2015 for the use of AstaZine® as a bulk dietary ingredient at a dose that does not exceed 12mg of Astaxanthin per day; the new NDI has been filed at a dose that does not exceed 24mg of Astaxanthin per day for a period of thirty days.
The new 24mg per day dosage is the first in the Astaxanthin industry over 12mg per day. “Based on published studies we generally recommend a dosage of 4mg – 12mg per day over longer periods; however, we are aware that a growing number of people are voluntarily dosing at well over the 12mg upper dosage range,” said Lixin Ding, PhD, Chief Operating Officer of AlgaeHealth. “In particular, many athletes report that they get better results in the 24mg per day dosage range.” Published clinical research on Natural Astaxanthin has seen a wide range of dosages. For example, research on immune health shows excellent results at 2mg per day, while there have been studies done at levels above 12mg showing benefits in a few different areas. In particular, the human studies on Astaxanthin’s benefits for cardiovascular health have shown positive results above 12mg per day.

AstaZine® receives novel food approval
November 24, 2016 – BGG and its subsidiary Algae Health Sciences (AlgaeHealth) announced today that their flagship product, AstaZine® Natural Astaxanthin, has won Novel Food approval from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
The new approval will allow BGG to market its AstaZine® line throughout Europe. This important achievement builds on two previous successful petitions for AstaZine® with the US FDA: The first at a dose that does not exceed 12mg of Astaxanthin per day, and the second at a dose that does not exceed 24mg of Astaxanthin per day for a period of thirty days. Following the substantial equivalence opinion released by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland, AstaZine® will be placed on the EU market as an ingredient in food supplements at the current levels of usage.
